Age Limit & Educational Qualifications for IAS:-        

Candidates have to fulfill the eligibility criteria set by the authorities to take the exam. The eligibility parameters are set on the basis of Nationality, Age Limit, Educational Qualifications, Number of Attempts and Physical Standards. Given below are the IAS Exam Eligibility Criteria:

Nationality:-                                                                                                     

  • For IAS and IPS, applicants must be a citizen of India.
  • Other services require candidates to be either,
  1. Citizen of India
  2. Subject of Nepal
  3. Subject of Bhutan
  4. Tibetan refugee who came to India before January 1, 1962 to settle permanently.
  5. An Indian origin migrant from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam who came to permanently settle in India.

Age Limit:-                                                                                                         

  • The lower age limit for IAS Exam 2019 is 21 years as on August 1, 2019, while upper age limit is 32 years.
  • There is upper age relaxation for reserved category candidates, which is as follows:
    1. SC/ST- Upto 5 years
    2. OBC- Upto 3 years
    3. Defence Services Personnel disabled in operations during hostilities- Upto 3 years
    4. Ex-servicemen- Upto 5 years
    5. ECOs/SSCOs who have completed an initial period of assignment of five years of Military Service- Upto 5 years
    6. PwD candidates- Upto 10 years
    7. Domiciles of Jammu and Kashmir from January 1, 1980 to December 31, 1989- Upto 5 years. Check IAS 2019 Eligibility

Educational Qualifications:-                                                                      

  • Applicants must hold a graduate degree or equivalent qualification from a recognized university

Number of Attempts:-                                                                                    

  • Only six attempts are allowed for a candidate to clear IAS Exam 2019.

UPSC 2019 Online Registration:-                                        

Interested candidates can fill the application form of the exam on the official website upsconline.nic.in. It can only be filled only online from February 7, 2019. Candidates who clear the Preliminary Exam have to apply for the Main Exam separately.

How to Fill IAS Application Form 2019?

Step 1- Registration Part 1
  1. Visit the official website i.e. upsc.gov.in
  2. Click on the link to ‘apply for UPSC Civil Services’
  3. Enter details like Name, Gender, Category, Nationality etc.
  4. Click on Submit button
  5. You will be redirected to the payment step
Step 2- Payment of Application Fee
  1. Choose the payment method between online or offline mode
  2. INR 100 must be submitted via Pay-in-slip which must be downloaded from the application portal.
  3. For online payment, candidates can use SBI credit card/debit card or Internet Banking Services.
  4. In case of Debit Card, enter the Card number, Validity and CVV number.
  5. If you choose Credit Card, enter the Card number, Validity and 6 digit special PIN number
  6. For net banking, enter the account details of the bank account
  7. Click on pay now post filling the details
  8. You will be redirected to the Part 2 of the UPSC Online Form
Note: This step is not applicable for candidates who are exempted from paying the fee.
Step 3- Registration Part 2
  1. Post receipt of the fee, fill other details of the IAS Application form
  2. Enter the choice of IAS Exam Center
  3. Enter the qualification and other communication details 
  4. Post verification, click on submit to proceed to the next step
Step 4- Uploading the Images
  1. Click on the link or blank space provided to upload the photograph
  2. Browse the location of the image and select the image
  3. Click on open/upload
  4. Check if the image is opened correctly and clearly
  5. Repeat the same steps to upload the image of the signature
  6. Click on “I Agree” to approve of the declaration and submit the complete IAS 2019 Application Form.
Note: Female applicants and SC/ST/ PwD category candidates are exempted from paying the fee.

IAS 2019 Admit Card:-                                                             

The admit card for both the exams will be made available on the UPSC website. The admit card for the Main Exam will be released in August 2019. Candidates can download their admit cards by following the steps mentioned below:
  1. Visit the official website of UPSC
  2. Click on link ‘Download IAS Prelims/Main Admit Card 2019’ 
  3. Read the instructions mentioned carefully and click ‘Yes’
  4. Enter Registration ID or Roll Number followed by Date of Birth of the candidate
  5. Submit after entering the captcha in the given blank field
  6. Print IAS Admit Card

Discrepancy in IAS Admit Card:-                                                              

In case candidate finds any discrepancy in the IAS 2019 Admit Card, he/she must report it immediately to the UPSC examination authorities. Note that following particulars must be enclosed in the redressal document:
  • Name and Year of Examination

  • Roll number
  • Name in BLOCK LETTERS

IAS 2019 Exam Centers for Prelims:-                                

The Preliminary Exam will be conducted in numerous centres across 72 cities in the country. The Main Exam is held in 24 different cities across India.

IAS Exam 2019 consists of 3 stages namely, Preliminary, Main and Personal Interview. Each exam has different pattern and different number questions.
  • Preliminary exam in IAS Exam 2019 is just a screening test to shortlist candidates for further selection process.

UPSC IAS 2019 Syllabus:-                                                      

IAS Syllabus is decided by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) each year. Each stage in IAS exam has a different syllabus.
  • IAS Syllabus for Prelims evaluates a candidate’s knowledge and aptitude in current affairs.
  • IAS Syllabus for Mains assesses a candidate’s academic expertise in his specialized subject. It also tests his ability to present knowledge in a clear and coherent manner and his overall intellectual traits and understanding of concepts. 
  • The prelims section of IAS Exam 2019 covers questions from History, Polity, Geography and Agriculture, Science and Technology, Ecology and Environment, Economics, Arts and Culture, Social Welfare and GK. 
  • The scope of IAS Syllabus for Mains section as optional subject papers (Paper VI and Paper VII) for the examination is broad of the honors degree level.

How to Check IAS Result 2019?                                         

UPSC declares the result of all the three stages separately. The result of IAS Exam 2019 is declared on the official website of UPSC. The Preliminary Exam’s result will be declared in July 2019 while that of Main Exam in January 2019.
Candidates can follow the below steps to access the IAS Result for each exam:
  1. Visit the official website of IAS i.e. upsc.gov.in
  2. Click on the link which says ‘View IAS Result 2019’
  3. Find your roll number in the list of the roll numbers mentioned in the PDF
  4. Download PDF for future reference

IAS Cut off 2019- Category- wise:-                                    

  • The minimum qualifying marks or cut off is released by the authorities post the declaration of result of each stage.
  • Candidates scoring more than or equal to the cut off marks are eligible for the next step of the selection process.
  • The cut off for both the examinations depends upon a number of factors like the difficulty level of the IAS Exam, vacancies available and number of appearing candidates etc.

IAS Selection Process 2019:-                                                    

The selection process of IAS Exam is a 3 stage assessment, wherein, candidates have to appear for Prelims, Mains and Personal Interview.
  • Preliminary exam is basically screening test in which, over 15 lakh candidates participate.
  • There are two papers for candidates to attempt compulsorily in IAS Exam 2019 Prelims.
  • The basic requirement to clear this stage is to at least secure 33% marks in General Science section.
  • Further, on the basis of IAS Exam 2019 result for prelims, candidates register for Mains exam.
  • IAS Exam 2019 Mains will cover 9 conventional essay type papers, 2 being optional in them.
  • Mains exam and interview session form basis of candidate’s selection. IAS Selection Process
  • After the IAS Exam 2019 Mains examination of 1750 marks, candidates have to clear the cut off as decided by UPSC.
  • Those who clear the cut off are called for Interview session.

Ans. IAS stands for Indian Administrative Service. It is a civil services exam that is conducted by UPSC each year. It contains 3 stages viz. Prelims, Prelims and Interview. All shortlisted candidates can choose from the given Group A/ B posts.
Ques. What is the salary of an IAS officer?
Ans. The 7th Pay Commission recommendations were approved by Cabinet on June 29, 2016. Now the basic pay of entry level IAS officers is INR 56100. Allowances like Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA) and Travel Allowance (TA) will be extra. The salary will increase as experience increases. The basic pay of Cabinet Secretary is fixed at INR 2,50,000.
